ShareTURN ON TUNE IN FUCK OFF!!! - Dragontears (Bad Afro)
Never mind the length, feel the quality. "Turn On Tune In Fuck Off!!!" only clocks in at 37 minutes and six songs but, boy, aren't they good ones. The brainchild of Baby Woodrose mainman Lorenzo Woodrose (vocals, drums, bass and organ) and members of On Trial, this Danish psychedelic studio combo blows the lid off the genre on their third and final album.

"Turn On…"is one heavy trip, apparently inspired by the impending end of the world (what else?) For that reason alone, it's a concept album. If that sort of talk normally makes you vomit a little in your mouth and run for the door, fear not, it rocks like the proverbial mission to Mars that NASA keeps threatening to make but never does.

So it's echoey guitars, harmonium and theremin and has more fuzz than a six-month-old gooseberry. You have a problem with that? It's anchored by the sort of loose-tight engine room that betrays its more rocking origins. The monstrous "No Salvation" sets acid trip excitations against a lumbering rhythm and lyrics about war in the name of religion. Works for me.

Then there's the elegiac "My Friend", whose gentler 12-string sensibilities are wrapped in thick lashings of ringing oscillator harmonics. I don't understand a word of the (Danish language) "Mennesketvilling" but you scarcely need to be multi-lingual to cotton onto the sound of minds being turned to aural gumbo.

The 13-minute plus "William" barely wades through a molasses of thick, looped sound, glass-shard percussion and bongos and sucks you in like a an early morning flashback with your ears packed in wads of cotton candy.

If you need psychedelics to latch onto the Velvets-like drone of "Time of no Time" you're possibly too acid-damaged to go and buy this anyway.

This is wonderful stuff and as sad as it is to hear that it's the final chapter in the Dragontears trilogy, it's encouraging to hear Lorenzo plans to take this damaged trip back with him into the groovy world of Baby Woodrose. - The Barman
