LIVE AT THE PLATTERPUSSERY - Blowfly (Steel Cage)
Porno rapper Blowfly swept through Australia briefly in 2007, doing pretty much what was expected and having a good time. X-rated parodies and his own stable of expletive-laden funk-rap tunes were par for the course and it was all good clean fun. But is there a place for a live album of the tour?
This one was given a couple of plays and it's pretty well done with. Clash re-writes like "Should I Fuck This Big Fat Ho?", the soul corruption of "Hole Man/Hold On It's Running" and "I Want To Be Fellated" (missing from this) are initially funny jokes that wear thin with a re-telling. Maybe they were funnier told/sung by a 60-something man in a wrestling costume but the visual aspect doesn't carry over to CD.
Most of the raps on this are Blowfly's own and without the advantage of familiarity, you have to listen hard to catch the humour. As good as the pick-up band was (drummer/MC Tom was the other tourist), that doesn't carry things over the line. There's minimal shock value in someone saying "pussy" 100 times - unless it's the Pope, Miolly Meldrum or the gay bloke that does the Hollywood gossip cross on breakfast TV.
You probably had to be there and if you were, you might want this. An album for diehards, otherwise. - The Barman
