This was Birdman's first ever gig in Germany, I was
informed by most of the crowd as they arrived. A good venue was provided
by the promoter, a lifetime fan of Birdman, and he put his own band
on to support. Cannot remember their name and did not see them as I
was too busy moving the merch with "Smiling" Johnny Needham.
The Birdman came out to a really good mix of a crowd; Lots of 25-year
fans and plenty of new young ones. The set was made up of all the classic
originals, plus the covers of "Waiting for My Man", "Cold Turkey", "You're
Gonna Miss Me" and so on.
The highlights for me were Deniz's guitar in "Maelstrom" and
"Aloha" and the force of "Cryin' Sun". This was
much anticipated by myself as I had only seen Birdman's set at the festival
in Bologna two days previous and it was curtailed to 45 mins and allowed
to go no higher than 92db's.
The 1.5 hours of entertainment at the Cobra was well worth the wait
and look forward to Saturday night here in London where there has been
much good press.
After the show you could have called the band's manager for "Beaming"
Johnny Needham as the German crowd came back for plenty more merch.
A great night had by all.
